Doggie Questions

For all you family and friends who are dog owners, please answer these 3 questions for me, someone who is brand new at this whole dog thing:
1. What kind of dog food do you use?
2. Do you have your dogs on monthly heartworm treatment?
3. Found any YUMMY smelling and long lasting dog shampoo you reccommend?

Thanks in Advance.

1. We have tried the expensive brands in the past, but have always gone back to Pedigree Adult. We buy it in the 50+ pound bag at Sam's for under $20.00. That lasts us about 2 weeks with three dogs.
2. We have only had one of our dogs tested for heartworm and he tested negative. We gave him the treatment for six months, but have not given it since or to our other two.
3. We always pick up the "cheap" stuff at Wal Mart or Dollar General. I find the expensive brands really aren't any better than those. The stink always finds a way to come back!!

I am SOOOO glad you are loving the dog thing. I do too!!

1. I use 1/2 Iam's dry food and 1/2 can food. The dogs seem to love it and I've heard that the canned food is really good for them.

2. Yes, you need to get with the vet to get the monthly heartworm treatment. It's very cheap. If you worry about fleas, you can even get one that has flea repellant in it (it's a lot more $$, though).

3. I use an Arm and Hammer shampoo, so it's pretty neutral smelling. I use baby shampoo on the dogs' heads...I don't want them to have tears with harsh shampoo. And it makes them smell nice!!

1. Pedigree lamb and rice
2. Yes, they are both on monthly heartworm/flea/tick treatment, we use Revolution
3. No need for expensive dog shampoo, they all do the same thing. Washing too often will also dry out and irritate their skin.

we also mix a tablespoon of plain yogurt into their dry food. The yogurt helps neutralize their gas and softens the food. Yogurt is also much cheaper than canned dog food.
