Today's Happening

Lincoln went to the specialist today, had an xray done through the cast. The bone is realigning properly, so he is good to go and will have another xray in 3 weeks and hopefully get his cast off....
After the Dr., Me, Lincoln, Lawson, Lauren, Nanny, and Lucky all had a picnic and some playtime at the lake, one of our favorite places to go! Ron, Nanny, and Grandpa Dave worked a lot today on putting wallpaper up in the new upstairs addition (even La La got to help with some wallpapering...).

It's not over for us....yet

As most families are probably winding down from the holidays, we still have a very eventful week ahead of us..... New Years Eve and New Years Day celebrations, Saturday the 3rd is the boys double birthday party blowout (complete with out of town family), the 4th is our 6 year wedding anniversary, and then on the 6th is Lawson's official birthday with his "at home" party..... Then we will be able to sit back and reflect on all the holiday chaos. This is a busy time of the year for us, but also a very exciting time!!!

So today will be sunny and in the 70's. After I take Lincoln to the special to have another x-ray on his arm, we will all (nanny and la la included, and Lucky) head out for a picnic lunch at Lake Grapevine. Fun Times.

Thanks Grammy for all the gifts, the boys have been having tons of fun with them.

Outside Play

Today is one of those 70 degree days where everyone is outside playing. Love these days......We are supposed to have another beautiful day tomorrow, and I think we will go to the lake.

Lincoln has a friend over for the day to play, Jaden.

The Broken Arm Story

So, I'm just realizing that I never filled you in on how Lincoln broke his arm, so here are the short and long stories, pick one...

Short Story: He fell off the foot board of his bed while reaching for his shelf, fell on the wooden floor just right in order to break the bone....

Long Story: If you ask Lincoln how he broke his arm, he will say it was because he was going to deliver Christmas cookies to the neighbor.... Well, I figured out that he didn't remember his fall.... I told him to go get his coat so he could take over some cookies.... He went into his room, and climbed up his bed foot board to get his coat that was hanging on the hook on the shelf. I wasn't in there, but I'm assuming he lost his balance, I heard a pretty loud boom. When I ran in there I was more concerned about his head which was growing a large bump.... He told me is arm hurt, but it wasn't swelling or anything.... Anyway, the next we got x-rays taken, and found out that his Radius bone was broken.... That's about it... Not too exciting of a story....

LaLa in Flower Mound

Here is a La La udate for Sue:
We have "initiated" her in her 1st 24 hrs here. She ate a whole meal of Chinese food (and loved it) before she realized what it was, she already has the dog sleeping on her bed with her (a Wilson treat, she normally isn't allowed in bed... so she loves when any of the Wilsons visit...), she bought a $15.00 itunes card and already used it up, I took her to 75% off Walgreens Christmas shopping (she came home with bags and bags of candy canes: good they are healthy for her...), we made her try a cup of night time hot tea (didn't like it), she got her 1st 2 boy jumping on her wake up, she already has had to watch Cat and the Hat, Horton hears a Who, and Kung Fu Panda (didn't mind this...), she thought we were out of our mind when I was calling neighbors to borrow an egg instead of running to the store (something my neighbors and I do quite frequently...), she has had to play pretend kitchen, r/c cars and helicopters, read bedtime stories, she has done lots and lots of texting and listening to music, eating up the peanut butter balls, slept in until 10am this morning, she babysat Lawson for 2 hrs yesterday while mommy and Lincoln went to the doctor... I think it's going to be a fun week!!

La La is Visiting

My neice, Lauren: La La to us, is here to visit with us (from the Houston area) for a whole week!!! The boys (and me) are SO. excited. So stayed tuned for updates on our activities. We got back last night from our family trip to Houston (5 hr drive), hosting by Tom, Courtney, and Bristol. I have some pictures of the trip to post once I get my thoughts together. I had to spend the am at the clinic because I have a sinus infection, but the steroid shot and Z pack will clear that right up..... It's always one of that's sick during these months.....

Good News for the Candy Cane Lovers Out There

Candy Canes fight germs and settles stomaches!

Dec. 24, 2008 -- New studies on peppermint, the key flavoring in traditional candy canes, reveal the herb may do everything from kill germs to treat digestive troubles.
Some researchers now advise consumers to eat a tablespoon or more of fresh peppermint, and other green herbs, daily.
Peppermint oil, found in most candy canes, also appears to have health benefits. A recent British Medical Journal study, led by McMaster University researcher Alex Ford, concludes that peppermint oil should be the first line of defense against irritable bowel syndrome, a condition characterized by abdominal pain and irregular bowels that affects between 5 to 20 percent of the population.
Peppermint oil, and other potent essential oils, may even one day be wafted in their vapor form over food to prevent the growth of bacteria.

Enjoying time spent with Nanny (my MIL) and Grandpa Dave. We just finished a great day/meal, and are heading to Christmas Eve service together.

Oh Holy Night

With all the hustle and bustle of Christmas, ie... shopping, gift wrapping, baking, etc.... it was great to watch this video, and be remembered about the true meaning of Christmas (plus I love Josh Groban and Oh Holy Night).

Childhood Christmas

Here are some pictures my mom dug up of some of my childhood Christmas's.
This is me on the left, and my older sister Sue on right.

Me at age 5 at a family Christmas party.
Everyone else at the party was done opening presents, but I was saving mine to open last....
So I was Lincoln's age here, and I was VERY SHY, much unlike our Lincoln....

Me at age 9....

Helper

Lincoln is limited on what he can do, but he still has been helping in the kitchen. Here he is helping to roll out the sugar cookies....

Birthday Highlights

After getting the cast on, I took Lincoln on a lunch "date" to Luby's. Then he spent a couple of hours over at Nanny and Grandpa Dave's. When Daddy got home and Lawson woke up, Lincoln was able to open all his presents one handed, and he loved everything. His request for dinner out was Texas Roadhouse which was having it's grand opening. They brought over a saddle for him to ride, and announced to the whole restaurant that it was his bday.... Then we came home for cake and playtime with every single one of his toys... It's 10:30 and he is still in bed playing some new Gameboy games.... I told him he could stay up as late as he wants b/c it's his birthday. Hoping it was a memorable day for him. See that picture of Lawson help blow out the candles??? Well, little did we know he was contaminating the cake with his Strept throat germs.... Right after the cake is when he went to the after hours clinic....
Now, on to focusing on Christmas!!

What Else???

Pondering what else is in store for us this week. We started our day off getting a cast on Lincoln, and ended up our day at the after hours clinic where we discovered our 2 yr old Lawson has STREP throat. Yuck. He sounds horrible. He has been "fighting" what I thought was a cold and allergies all week, but by no means did I know he had strep throat all along. He is highly contagious at this stage, obviously, so let's just hope no one gets it (including Nanny who babysat him all morning while I was with Lincoln at the specialist). So now add Lincoln and Lawson to your prayers tonight, please and thank you....

Manger Scene

This was our Christmas present from Lincoln that he made at preschool.
That is Abby (his BFF that he wants to marry) posing as Mary and that's Lincoln as Joseph.
Isn't this the cutest thing e.v.e.r???? It's up on our fireplace, loving it.

the cast

Today we went to the specialist to get Lincoln's cast on. He picked a light blue color, which is his favorite color. He was pretty excited about the cast and sling, but I'm sure that he will get pretty tired of it real quick. He will have another x-ray in 10 to check the progress, and hopefully get it off in 4 weeks. NO physical activity allowed during the 4 weeks... and also for 4 weeks after due to the possibility of a re fracture. It's going to be a long 4 weeks I think...
I was a little surprised that he had to get an above the elbow cast, he said that if it was just below the elbow that since Lincoln has such tiny bones in his arms, that the cast would fall off in a week. He is supposed to wear the sling all times except bedtimes, because the weight of the cast wouldn't be good to be supported by a broken bone....
Keep Lincoln and his arm in your prayers, Please and Thank You....

Five Years

Dear Lincoln,
It was just Five years ago that God blessed us by giving you to us to love and to care for. One of the happiest days of my life. You were born at 6:59pm, and I was in labor for over 24 hrs, but that's a whole other story for another day! We love you and wish you a HAPPY 5th BDAY TODAY!!!!!
Since you are Five today, here are 5 things that I love about you.
1. Your Laugh. Since you were a tiny baby, you always loved to laugh. And it has always been so easy to get you to laugh. Love that laugh, I always want to hear that....
2. Your maturity. Can't believe how mature and responsible you have always been. So polite and well mannered. You have always been wise beyond your years.
3. Your love for God. You had a very early interest in learning as much as you could about the bible and God. You have always wanted to pray for other people, and learn all the bible stories and verses. You amazed me.
4. Love how you have always been social, friendly, caring, and giving. All without prompting. You just have this natural gift of a very large heart. You love people and people love you.
5. I love your imagination, you constantly amaze me by what your little mind can come up with.

WE LOVE YOU LINCOLN, HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!

The Joke Report

Here is a pretty cute video of Lincoln doing a "joke report", we took this video just a bit before his arm breaking accident... You can tell he is a bit camera shy here...nervous....but nonetheless, still cute.

Arm Update

Tough times as a parent, are when you feel so helpless having a hurt child. It just puts this big pit in my tummy to Lincoln with the hurt arm. However, he doesn't seem to mind.... Today, his fingers were a bit puffy and swollen, but that got better. He slept great, 12 hours without waking up in pain, and he just naturally slept with his arm elevated. Today he complained a bit about the whole thing being uncomfortable, but he kept himself busy. Friday morning (his 5th birthday) we will go to the specialist in Grapevine (the same one that put Lawson's cast on), to get his cast. I guess he will never forget his 5th birthday. When Ron was the same exact age, he broke his collarbone falling off a slide. Personally, I have never broken a bone.... It seems so shocking to me that both of my boys have already broken a bone at such a young age.....

Good News is that it is his LEFT arm/hand and he is right handed. So, that makes a huge difference. But, he can't do anything with his left, so he needs a lot of help doing things he used to be able to do independently. It's going to be a long 4 weeks.

Good News and Bad News

What do you want to hear 1st??

OK, Lincoln BROKE HIS ARM.... He is in a splint, and will have to go on Friday (which happens to be his 5th Birthday) to be put in a cast for 4 weeks. Bummer. Details on the injury later. He isn't in any pain, so that's good. Please Pray for a Fast Recovery of his bone.

But the good news is Nanny and Grandpa Dave arrived (a day early) today. They will be here for their usual 30 day Winter Stay. We are HAPPY they are here. We have been waiting awhile for them.

It's been a tough tough tough day for me all around, but I know tomorrow will be better.

Christmas, Present

Got this book from the Library, so I can't pass it on.
But I can recommend it!!
Christmas, Present. By Jacquelyn Mitchard. It was great!!! A short, easy read. I read it all in one sitting: couldn't go to bed until I finished it. Very thought provoking, it's been on my mind all week.
Anyone read a good book lately??? Looking for another good read.

Another Party

We went to our 4th Birthday party w/in a weeks period today. And it was Taylor's!! We drove out to Plano to go to Planet Pizza. It's quite the drive, but boy was it fun. They had amusement park rides INSIDE... They had a roller coaster, bumper cars, tea cups, airplanes and a pirate ship. And all the rides were unlimited for free... Can you imagine being able to go on a roller coaster over and over and over, well that's what the boys did. They went on it at least 25-30 times in a row..... Needless to say they had a blast and Lincoln is already planning his 6 yr old party there!!!

Sweet Temptations

Daddy surprised the boys by ordering this Gingerbread House and bringing it home tonight. Here the boys are "pretending" to smell it, but what they really were doing was smashing their noses in it so they could sneak some frosting....

How long do you think this "decoration" will last at our house??

Busted, Again.

NOTE TO SELF: Do not "hide" all the good candy on top of the refrigerator.

Busted!!!

The Silly Socks

Today at Lincoln's preschool it was "S" day. Therefore it was Silly Sock day as well as strawberry shake day... Anyway, since I totally forgot to pick up some "silly socks", Daddy made him some handmade silly socks to wear, and here they are:

Wednesday, December 10

It almost snowed....

Yes, it did snow in Dallas last night. It didn't quite make it all the way to Flower Mound, but we did get really really really cold!!!

Bowling Party

Lincoln and Emily at her Bday party.
It was a Bowling party at Main Event, and tons of fun.
After the party, Lincoln kept talking about how he wanted a "play date" with Emily, without "all her other friends", how he wanted it to be just him and her, and "Mommy you can put up a sign saying No other kids allowed!!". I need to set this up with Darla!!

Monday, December 8

Em

For those of you that have been with my blog from the beginning... has it been 3 yrs already??? Well, you will remember Lincoln's buddy Emily.
When we 1st moved to Flower Mound Lincoln and Emily were best buds.... Her mom and I went to college together...
Anyway, when she started Kindergarten we hardly ever get to see that busy girl!!!
We went to her 6th birthday party this weekend. She's really growing up. And just look at her. Could she be any cuter??? And her sister Ashley is turning 16!!! I remember visiting Darla at the hosp when she had her!!
