Just to clear some things up....
The results of my Quad Screen blood work came back as positive for
Down's Syndrome. They told me not to panic because there is a 5% false positive rate. Well that meant that the results were 95% chance of being accurate. Since I am 39 yrs old, my chances of having a baby with
Down's is quite high, so naturally I panicked.
I had to go to a specialist, which fortunately could see me the very next day. I had a Level II ultrasound, and the baby was absolutely perfect!!! They checked about 20 different markers and measurements for
Down's, and the baby didn't have a single thing wrong with him. (Praise God) Fortunately I was within that 5% false positive rate.
Yes, I knew better than to overreact, for we went through something very
similar with my 1st pregnancy which turned out to be a false alarm. But I couldn't help it, I pretty much freaked out.
The specialist
recommended an ultrasound every 4 weeks for now on. Just to make sure the baby is growing and still doing good. It was so cute on the ultrasound yesterday, the baby was yawning, rubbing his face, and sucking on his fingers. I like the idea of "checking in" on the baby every 4 weeks.
So that's that. Moving on the 2
nd part of my pregnancy which to me is 100% better. The 1st half is tough! From now on, let's just hope for smooth sailing. And no more false positives.
